About Bethany Baptist

Bethany Baptist Church is a congregation committed to making God's Word central to every area of our life. All of our teaching ministries are built upon studying the Bible with an emphasis on practical application for living in today’s culture. We continue this theme from young children through senior adults.

Our Roots and Our Commission

In 1879, Bethany became the first German Baptist church on the Pacific Coast and the first organized German Baptist church west of the Rocky Mountains. 

Missions has been the heartbeat of Bethany for over a century. Over the years the church gave many “sons and daughters” to the Lord in ministry, both as pastors and missionaries. Cameroon, Japan, and Peru are a few of the countries Bethany sent missionaries with the gospel of Christ. Through the years Bethany has also sent out others to start sister churches around the greater Portland area.

Our commitment is to faithfully proclaim the good news of the Gospel, build up believers through discipleship, and intentionally share the love of God with our community and the world.
